Instructor Biography - Danny McGinley

I started training in martial arts 1986 in my home town of Greystones Co. Wicklow, under Mr Kenneth Wheatley, 6th Dan in Tae Kwon-Do, who instilled strong basics, stances and fighting skills. During this time I successfully competed in many tournaments specialising in power breaking and patterns at both National and International level.

I participated in many demonstration teams in the promotion of Tae Kwon-Do along the east coast of Ireland. In 1990 I successfully graded to 1st Degree Black Belt under Grand Master Hee ll Cho At this time I also cross- trained in numerous martial arts such as Sin Moo Hapkido and Bujinkan Ninjutsu.

In 1994 I successfully graded to 2nd Degree Black Belt in Tae Kwon-Do again under Grand Master Hee ll Cho. In 1999 I attended the international instructors 3 day course hosted by the late General Choi Chong Hi Founder of ITF Tae Kwon-Do.

On relocating to the Portlaoise area in 2004 my martial art career took a new path, as I joined the Portlaoise Kenpo Karate club which at the time was run by Mr Stephen Mc Keon. In 2006, after Stephen had to leave the club, I became took over running of the club along with Mr Barry Hooper under the guidance of Senior Professor Ed Downey.

During this time I attended seminars with Senior Professor Downey, Master John Sepulveda, Master Bob White and Sigung Stephen LaBounty.

Mr Darren Mahony 3rd Deg Black Belt became the Head Instructor of Portlaoise Kenpo Karate in 2007, where I have been training and teaching ever since.
